PDO threads are the ideal treatment to complement Botox or dermal fillers, offering additional lifting benefits in the areas where fillers are not always recommended, such as the lower face and jaws.
A PDO thread lift is the only way to non-surgically lift the face and neck and is particularly successful at addressing the jowl and jawline area.
You may have heard about PDO Thread Lifts, but what exactly does the treatment involve? PDO stands for Polydioxanone, a substance which has been safely used in surgery for biomedical applications for many years, particularly in cardiothoracic surgery. Recently we have been using these same threads to insert in the face and neck to tighten and lift.
There are two main types of threads – mini collagen building threads which address crepey skin and skin laxity and pulling suspension threads which tighten the tissues and create a lift. Both types of threads stimulate collagen production so the results will enhance in the 2-3 months post-treatment as the collagen framework underneath the skin builds.
There are several different types of threads available. Some threads are barbed and are used to create an enhanced lifting effect. We can stimulate volume by using smooth and twisted threads. They can be placed almost anywhere in the face and neck. Dr Imogen will often use PDO threads in combination with other treatments including dermal fillers, Profhilo and our collagen drink, Skinade, to deliver the best possible treatment outcome.
PDO Threads are fully absorbed within 4-6 months and do not leave any scar tissue and the results last 12-18 months.
Dr Imogen will numb the treatment area so that the procedure is completely painless. There may be some initial swelling and bruising which will resolve 3-7 days after treatment.
